At JOURNEY MALIBU, we understand how trying to do this alone can be defeating. It takes courage to pick up that phone and admit you have a problem. At our facility, we’ll educate you about the neurobiology behind your addiction, so that you can understand it is a no-fault illness of the brain. We do not ascribe critical notions of liability, imperfection, or fault to a human being for having this brain disorder. We help our residents to understand that their addictions have in essence “hijacked their brains” of their normal abilities to function. We believe that a sense of normalcy and of taking pleasure in life can be regained for even the most critical addict, but that education and understanding of the neurophysiologic mechanisms behind addiction are necessary to a successful and complete recovery.
How does our program differ from other,
more conventional rehabs?
You may be wondering how Journey Malibu’s rehab differs from other, more conventional California drug rehabs. For starters, a more conventional drug rehab will not necessarily focus on you as an individual the way an Exclusive drug rehab can. Quite often, the more conventional Malibu drug rehabs will admit a large number of patients into their drug treatment centers, which in turn increases the probability that you will become just another statistic to them. They will see you as simply one more “victim” to whom they will administer a generalized, one-size-fits-all treatment plan. On the other hand, at JOURNEY MALIBU, we limit the number of guests so an experience of Quality verses Quantity will prevail.
That means 1) we have an extremely low client-to-staff ratio, 2) we can focus on you, and 3) that we have a much greater ability than other California drug rehabs to get to know you behind the mask, and custom-tailor a treatment program towards a rejuvenated, realigned, and yes, recovered you.
We are also cell and computer friendly, and understand the need to stay connected to your life while in recovery. Titrating integration back into the “real world” is an important part of the program here. Arresting addictions (substance use or behavioral) is but the beginning. How you live your life after rehab is our real focus, and helping you stay connected to your life during your stay with us will allow us to better understand the work that needs to be done. We will then be able to offer more effective guidance, as you rebuild your capacity to negotiate, tolerate, and move through situations that may have adversely affected you in the past.
